   Schirmer Strips

This dignostic strip made from the Whatman No 41 filter paper measures the amount of tear production. These strips are individually wrapped and are gauged so they can be easily read. The Schirmer test is based upon mechanical reflex stimulation of the tear production and is actually a test of reflex tear production when performed without anesthesia. Place a dry Schirmer strip over the middle to lateral 1/3 of the lower eyelid. The patient is then instructed to look forward and blink normally. The strip is removed after 5 minutes and amount of wetting is recorded in millimeters.

Indications:
  • Used for measurement of tear production for Dry Eye.
  • Gauged for easy reading.
Packaging:
Box of 100 individually packed sterile strips.

   Fluorescine Strips

Extre Strip - Fluoro is the most commonly used diagnostic strips to visualize defects or aberrations in the corneal epithelium by staining the areas of cellular loss. Also useful for evaluating hard contact lens fitting and applanation tonometry. Available as sterile strips in individual peel-open pouches.

Indications:
  • For Applanation Tonometry.
  • For evaluating contact lens fitting.
Composition per strip:
  • Fluorescein Sodium USP - 1 mg
Packaging:
Box of 100 individually packed sterile strips.

    Lissamine Strips

These strips work by staining the cornea blue upon instillation. This causes "speckling" of the cornea, which gives the doctor immediate indication of any dry patches, as well as any muco-deficient or damaged corneal cells. Most importantly, it does not sting the eye like Rose Bengal, and a white light or blue light can be used on the slit lamp during detection. Available as sterile strips in individual pouches.

Indications:
  • To stain preferentially damaged or devitalized cells.
  • To indicate any dry patches, as well as any mucus-deficient or damaged corneal epithelial cells.
  • It does not stain healthy, proliferating ocular surface cells and has minimal effect on cell viability.
Composition per strip:
  • Each strip is impregnated with 1.5 mg of Lissamine Green.
Packaging:
Box of 100 individually packed sterile strips.

   Rose Bengal Strips

Rose Bengal is an ocular stain that has the affinity for degenerating epithelium (outer layer of cornea). It stains devitalized or degenerated epithelial cells as well as mucous filaments. Available as sterile strips in individual peel-open pouches.

Indications:
  • It stains dead or degenerated epithelial cells of the cornea and conjunctiva.
Composition per strip:
  • Each strip is impregnated with approximately 1.3 mg of Rose Bengal.
Packaging:
Box of 100 individually packed sterile strips.
